The inside scoop on the 2016 Hilux launch

Since the 2016 Toyota Hilux was basic unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, it caused relatively a stir – for all the right reasons. Now it has arrived in the UK, and if the UK hurl event is anything to go by, it’s going to be a huge hit.

This pioneering pick-up is already being described as ‘one of the unsurpassed models in its class to drive on and off road’, and the UK set afloat’s rural, picturesque setting of Buckinghamshire was chosen as the unequalled proving ground for journalists to try out the Hilux on varying terrains.

Starting on the tarmac, drivers followed the pre-programmed seven-inch touchscreen sat-nav nearly Buckinghamshire, discovering the many clever features in the cordial cabin and experiencing how the Hilux would fondle driving day-to-day.

Heading off-road, an accompanying trainer assisted drivers in taking on treacherous and squushy terrain, with heavy rain adding to the mix. The wet withstand gave the Hilux a chance to put its skills to the probe, tackling the trail with ease.

A tougher chassis, enhanced 4×4 capabilities and a new four-whither-drive switch all assisted the cross-outback challenge, as well as advanced Downhill Second Control (DAC), maintaining stability whilst mobile downhill in off-road conditions.

The new and more economic 2.4-litre D-4D diesel engine, with its sympathetic torque delivery, helped the drivers to do in steep hills, muddy fields and abyssal flowing rivers, making off-roading incredibly fun and gratifying.
