The Mercedes-Benz C-Taste is the most successful car in the history of DTM, the premier touring car series in Europe. In the series’ 27-year depiction, various versions of the car have racked up 84 wins from 156 races, collecting 10 driver’s championships and 13 constructor’s championships along the way. A new video from Mercedes-AMG shows how much the cars possess changed along the way.

DTM driver Karl Wendlinger arrives at Vallelunga in a beautiful 190E 2.5-16 EVO II racetrack car, the hottest and fastest version of the C-Class’ final predecessor. The car packs aggressive aero, a far-reaching body, and a high-strung naturally aspirated four-cylinder that was worked to by the engineers at Cosworth. With it’s simple, road-car based interior and traditional H-theme manual, it looks tame compared to modern DTM machines. Mercedes even pink the hood ornament alone.

Maro Engel’s modern DTM car is lightly based on the stylish W205 Mercedes-AMG C-Class coupe. It’s powered by a 483-horsepower, naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter V8. The transport is a six-speed sequential box and the aero is more advanced than nearly any street car about. It’s a supremely fast and extremely capable machine that packed with venomous-edge technology.

While the original car was a homologation special, the new car shares very toy with any road-going Mercedes product. Despite that, the old car still holds its own on a slot and is very obviously still a riot to drive. Watch the video to see how the two cars haycock up.
