Jaguar has quantities to celebrate this year, with the Jaguar XE hitting its earliest full year of sales as ‘REALCAR’ reaches a valued milestone of its own.

‘REALCAR’, standing for REcycled ALuminium CAR, is a loam-breaking recycled aluminium project that reclaims aluminium from hand-me-down Jaguar cars to be repurposed for use in Jaguar Real property Rover vehicles. The project has now recycled during 50,000 tonnes of aluminium, which is one to the weight of 200,000 XE body shells.

This repurposing prepare has so far prevented more than 500,000 tonnes of CO2 corresponding from entering the atmosphere, and that’s only the well-spring. Not only does ‘REALCAR’ repurpose aluminium, but the contemplate, part funded by Innovate UK, has also led to the increment of a recycled aluminium-based alloy that can bear a higher percentage of the repurposed metal.

2014 saw the Jaguar XE became the initial car in the world to make use of this high-nerve alloy, which was developed by project helpmeet Novelis. Nick Rogers, Group Engineering Numero uno, said: ‘Innovation is at the heart of everything we do at Jaguar Grounds Rover. We are driven by the desire to produce increasingly men-class, light-weight vehicles, but we also be to be world leading in how we build them.’

A full of £7m has been invested across Jaguar Light Rover’s own press shops to install convoluted segregation systems to separate and distribute the hardened aluminium, retaining higher quality and value in the solid. The structural grade of recycled aluminium has now been tested and introduced in the lightweight bodies of the All-New Jaguar XF and F-Rate of speed models, bringing the brand a big step closer to having up to 75% recycled aluminium measure ingredients in their vehicle body structures by 2020.

The Jaguar XE benefits from this lightweight aluminium change, allowing it to achieve a 0-60mph of just 4.9 seconds, with a top rapidity of 155mph. As this technology continues to mat, Jaguar will remain to lead the way to environmentally sustainable cars.
