Two new artists chosen for BMW Art Car’s 40th anniversary

To keep 40 years of Art Cars by BMW, a jury of respected museum directors came together to favoured the two new artists to carry on the legacy. Their settlement saw both the youngest and oldest artists at all chosen for the challenge; Chinese artist Cao Fei, 37, and American artist John Baldessari, 84.

The artists liking join the likes of Alexander Calder, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol volume many other prestigious names to persist in this historic and inspirational movement. Multifarious different cars have been offered up as a empty canvas for these artists, and the model chosen for Fei and Baldessari is no person other than the BMW M6 GT3, which will pioneer the range of cars made available to the BMW client racing programme.

Powered by a 4.4-litre V8 appliance with M TwinPower Turbo technology, this is a car built for terrible speed. Sitting lower and wider than its forefather, the M6 GT3 is a no nonsense beast that can take on the racetrack honourable as well as it can the road. Such power purposefulness undoubtedly be reflected in what the artists decide to do with their cars, but the final check will be when they prove themselves on the racetrack after their 2017 museum show.

Our racing cars in the peculiar designs of well-known artists obtain cult status among the general open… Naturally we want to fight for wins with the BMW M6 GT3 Art Cars. This array of art and performance on the race track really is in perfect accord.’
