Watch: Ekstrom Drives the Audi Quattro R-6

On top of finishing this weekend’s Montalegre rallycross forwards of a pushy Frenchman, Mattias Ekstrom also took the time to drive a timeless Audi.

The longtime Audi racer stepped out of his 560 hp S1 RX quattro to step into the car that started it all.

The Audi Rallye quattro R-6 was the sooner ever quattro to race in rallying and brought the company instant success in the airfield.

First raced by Hannu Mikkola at the Portuguese rally in 1980, the R-6 was on display all weekend for the Portuguese fans to look at. Agree what he had to say about the car after being reunited with it at the Goodwood Festival of Precipitateness below.

Ekstrom is the defending WRX champion, and after two races is undefeated this seasonable. He will race again in Germany on May 5 as the two series he races in (DTM and WRX) have converging race weekends at the Hockenheimring.
