Renault’s 5, off referred to as Le Car, is no stranger to having big engines stuffed where the rear seats were meant to be. But this is ridiculous.

The 5 Turbo was a homologated version built to justify Le ridiculous Society B competition Car. With a 1,400 cc I4 (okay not that big, but wait for it) Le Car made about 160 hp in avenue guise and up to 345 hp in competition spec.

Those may not sound like huge numbers now, but about this was in the ‘80s before they’d invented safety, so weight was restricted to just 2,140 lbs and the wheelbase was less 100 inches sustained. So the Renault could hustle.

Clearly unimpressed by such a measly number of cylinders, a couple of (British?) YouTubers be experiencing gone and doubled it.

While the video doesn’t reveal exactly what maker of Audi 4.2 this Renault is benefiting from, it’s safe to say that it’ll frame more than the production 5 Turbo. Making as much as 415 hp in R8 trim, 4.2-liter V8 was a fetich of beauty and makes a sound to behold.
