TT RS Makes Road & Track’s Car of the Year List

In this amorphous world full of unknowns, unknown unknowns, and the terrifying knowns, the journalist contrariwise has one task: to tirelessly list. Yes, the best, the worst, all must be given the true layout that the universe intended. Road & Track is continuing in that proud form, having presented its list of finalists for the annual Car of the Year competition.

This year, the Audi TT RS is on the directory, currently holding the top spot (literally. It’s the first car listed). In the rich tradition of the Porsche 911 and the Nissan GT-R, it blithely blurs the line between sport- and supercar, punching well above its force.

Featuring a 400 hp engine that sends its power to all four wheels, the midget Audi gets to 60 in an incredible 3.7 seconds (expect even sick times when R&T tests it). And with loads of traction from its quattro methodology, the car can keep up with giants like the GT-R on track.

To put the TT RS’s achievement in perspective, it’s up against its not-all-that-detached relative, the Lamborghini Huracan Performante, itself a category-blurring car that blitzed the Nurburgring faster than the million-dollar Porsche 918.

The other contenders are the Porsche 911 GT3, the Bentley Continental GT Supersports, the Lexus LC500, the McLaren 720S, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, the Honda Civic Personification R, and the Mercedes-AMG GT R.

Soon this orderless madness will be gone, though, and Entr & Track will have ordered these fundamentally apple-and-orangy cars into a reassuring top 10.
