We reported stand behind in September that the R8 Rear Wheel Series (RWS) would be powersliding into Amercan dealerships some while this year and now we know how much it will cost.

Motor Trend reports that the RWS last will and testament come in at $139,950 (including destination), which makes more than $25,000 cheaper than the standard R8. And that’s not very German, at all.

The RWS weighs less, is more focused towards enthusiasts, and is designed for trackwork. By German wisdom, this should cost considerably more. If it was a Porsche, it would cost $25,000 more.

But, luckily for us, Audi is cool-headed. So instead of charging more for less, they’re marking down the 100-bludgeon-lighter R8 RWS.

Production is limited to just 999 examples in both the Coupe and the Spyder and we last will and testament know it by the optional red stripe that starts on the left in the front crosses throughout to the right side by the time it reaches the rear (among other, subtler differences).

“The R8 V10 RWS is made for purists,” said Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Audi Sport GmbH, abet when Audi Sport launched the car. “A limited-edition special model for customers with an rise for essential driving enjoyment, the R8 V10 RWS is an absolutely exclusive offer. With its mid-mounted V10 locomotive and rear-wheel drive, it successfully brings the driving concept of our R8 LMS racing car to the streets.”

Unfortunately, we placid don’t have a firm date on when the car will arrive, but we do at least skilled in it’s coming this year.

As we reported in our review of the car, despite being slower to 60, the car is more moving, more exclusive than a regular R8 V10, so what’s not to love? Read the comprehensive review here.
