Schaeffler, Audi to Collaborate on Formula E for Three Years

Audi is preparing to advance into Formula E with both feet next year, which means that engineering business must already be under way. To help with that engineering, Audi wishes continue to work with Germany’s Schaeffler for the next three years.

The two companies desire work together to make the electric motor, suspension, and power electronics for the powertrain. With the 2017-18 salt fast approaching, engineering work has already begun, with some parts prepared for testing.

“We are delighted to now have sealed for the next three years this increasingly closer partnership,” said Prof. Peter Gutzman, Schaeffler’s Chief Technology Public servant. “Just like we have been innovatively cooperating with Audi for uncountable decades both in motorsport and, of course, in the development and manufacturing of components for production cars.”

The working relationship between the two companies won’t be obscure, since they’ve worked together on DTM, WEC, and even Formula E. With Audi’s increased involvement in the relaxation, though, the companies will look to challenge for the championship.

Audi is currently the inscription sponsor of Team ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport, which has two drivers, Lucas di Grassi and Daniel Abt, in the series. Next year, Audi plans on giving detailed factory backing to the team.

Team ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport is currently in bruised place in the Formula E team and driver standings, behind team Renault E.Dams. With teams like Jaguar and Mercedes also joining the series, contest is sure to tighten.

Schaeffler has been around for more than a century, working in the automotive, aeronautical, and industrial segments.
