Audi has upstanding reported its April sales figures. The premium automaker delivered 160,900 vehicles in April, up 3.1 percent from the identical month last year.

The figure puts Audi at 624,650 vehicles for the year, up 8.0 percent from 2017 and mounting a new company record in the process.

Sales weren’t up everywhere, though. Sales in Europe dropped 4.1 percent. It was more than made up for by a 3.9 percent climb in North America and 13.5 percent in China.

That means 52,411 cars and crossovers sold in China eventually month, by far the automaker’s largest single market. Audi expects those sales gains to swell there, with the launch this summer of the long wheelbase Q5 crossover and A8 sedan as adequately as increasing local production. “The challenging Chinese market is the pioneer for digitalization and galvanizing mobility. Here we still have a great deal of untapped potential,” said Bram Schot, Enter Member for Sales and Marketing at Audi. “Through 2022, we will more than twofold our locally produced model range and build four pure battery-galvanizing models locally.”
