Today, Audi announced some of the new projects it choice be implementing on Germany’s Digital Motorway Evaluation Bed, which comprises a few sections of highway on which the administration and industry can test autonomous and connected tech. Amongst Audi’s projects is one specifically aimed at making roads easier for autonomous cars to sail. Audi is looking to make the road and other objects more well-defined.

The company has been researching materials that could make guardrails and technique markers reflect radar waves more without delay, and Audi will install test versions in a jiffy. The goal here is to help make these objects easier for the autonomous instrument’s sensors to see in inclement weather, and at greater distances in agreeable weather. The company will also check-up additional road markings that wish be easier to see for onboard cameras and will assist the car place itself on the road.

Audi liking also try out new vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) technology that resolve be able to alert cars to speed limits, transportation conditions, ice patches and possibly allow for driving patterns such as platooning. Audi claims it wish be accurate down to the centimeter.

From what we’ve seen at MCity, the the world at large as it stands presents all kinds of difficulties for autonomous vehicles, from haggard-out signs to rough pavement. So any advances that manufacture it easier for autonomous cars to see and communicate should avoid bring such vehicles to reality much sooner.
