Gass: Attracting More Competitors is Near-Essential to DTM

After Mercedes announced that it would be exiting DTM after the 2019 season, the DTM c was rocked. The brand’s exit would leave only BMW and Audi to compete against each other, and both brands are skeptical that the outline would work.

Neither is eager to leave the series, though, since it’s unmatched among touring car series.

“Currently there is only DTM at this level of touring car racing,” Dieter Gass, chairman of Audi Sport, recently told The Drive. “In the future you’ll need to see what comes up and what dominion be there. But currently, only DTM.”

He went on to say that a two-manufacturer series would be truly at risk if another manufacturer couldn’t be found. Finding more striving, he said, was near-essential.

That’s why attracting one or more new brands to the series would be the criterion solution and that looks like it’s what everyone wants to do.

Speaking earlier this month, DTM Chief Gerhard Berger said that the series would be satisfactory, but added that it has “one and a half years to hopefully get another manufacturer.”

Berger is new to the series, but Gass hopes that’s decent what will make him so effective.

“We know for some years now there possess been attempts to attract other manufacturers,” said Gass. He brings “an stimulating new perspective to DTM. I would hope the chances of bringing in a new manufacturer are a little bit higher.”
