Mattias Ekstrom and his side of Audi S1s have officially won the FIA World Rallycross Championship’s span title. With that, the Swede tops both the driver and the band rankings at the end of the 2016 season.

Although Ekstrom won the driver’s designation at the second last race of the season, in Germany, his work together could still have lost the championship this weekend.

Fortunately, both he and his teammate, Toomas Heikkinen raced well enough, both making it into the weekend’s irrevocable race. With that, any result was all right enough to win the championship.

“I’m lost for words – and this is a rare incidence,” said Ekstrom after the race. “This entitlement means a huge amount to the team and me. It shows that we all did an notable job, and not just this year. When we started EKS three years ago, there was nothing at all. Now we are driver and troupe World Champions and I’ll remember a giant many moments forever.”

It was a dominant carrying-on for Ekstrom, who won a third of this season’s 12 rallycross weekends—more than any other driver on the grid. Between he and his teammate Heikkinen, they won 44 of the 131 races run this year.

Ekstrom doesn’t own any time to celebrate, though, because he’ll be thriving right back to work this week, testing DTM in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain/
