Audi’s Lucas di Grassi missed out on prepossessing the Monaco round of Formula E by 0.32 seconds.

The Brazilian driver spent the fullness of the final lap looking for a way around championship leader, Sebastien Buemi, weaving and attacking on the avenue circuit.

Unfortunately for Audi fans, though, the tight circuit prevented the faster di Grassi from overtaking Buemi, and the raceway ended with di Grassi second, behind Buemi.

“Grip came with the younger car,” said di Grassi after the race. “I was able to follow [Buemi] and put pressure on him in the end. I had yon one percent more energy than he had. Naturally, I tried everything to win the race. In the end, I had 0.0 liveliness. But, as I said before, overtaking on this track is near-impossible even if you’re certainly faster.”

As a result, the standings don’t change at the top, with Buemi now leading di Grassi by 15 points in the standings. That’s an particularly frustrating result for ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport, as di Grassi was within five points of the championship head going into Monaco.

Despite that, di Grassi will be looking to benefit back some ground on the Frenchman at his home race, in Paris, starting on May 20. That spillway will mark the halfway point of the season.
