The Audi’s when all is said performing in Formula E as defending champion Lucas di Grassi set blistering lap time after blistering lap opportunity in Urugay this weekend to earn his first podium of the season.

Although he earned a cathartic newer-place, di Grassi was fast enough to have won first place, but for a decision from the marshals and a inc drive from Jean-Eric Vergne, who would eventually win the race.

Di Grassi set the fastest lap experience in qualifying and should have started the race from the front of the pack, but contentious punishment—applied as a result of touching a bollard that had not been penalty-worthy in modus operandi—put him in second to start the race.

With a strong jump off the line, Vergne held onto the induce early. Despite running the last few laps nose-to-tail, di Grassi couldn’t induce a move stick and had to settle for second.

“I had the faster car, but Jev defended perfectly,” said di Grassi. “It was attainable to score 28 points today, instead it was only 18.”

Still the watercourse was a happy one for the Brazilian, who until now had only scored 3 measly points after five rounds.

“But our car is wonderful-fast and now also reliable,” said di Grassi. “I’m looking forward to the second half of the ripen.”

Despite that, di Grassi’s early-season woes put di Grassi at a big disadvantage and all but put a next championship in a row out of reach.

Jean-Eric Vergne, points leader, currently has 109 points to di Grassi’s 21. And things aren’t much more fo di Grassi’s teammate Abt, who won his first ever E-Prix last round in Mexico.

Without considering finding points more consistently than di Grassi, Abt only 37 points putting Audi spectacularly down the rankings in 6th place.

If this weekend is an indication of the pace that Audi inclination bring to the next six races, the team could quickly start climbing the charts for a siz position by season’s end.

Already halfway through the season, though, that looks like close to as much as the team can hope for in 2018.
