Audi Will Unveil the Q8 in June

We’ve heard a lot hither the new Q8 over the last couple of months, but now we finally know when we’ll get to see it. That’s because Audi announced at its annual push conference that it will reveal the Q8 in Shanghai in June.

That should state you something about who Audi hopes will buy the new halo SUV. That said, it won’t be restricted to China’s wealthier neighborhoods, because the brand wants affluent people all beyond the world to buy the utility coupe.

The Q8 is “the new face of the Q family” says Audi’s loaf of R&D, Peter Mertens.

The new SUV is taking over the top spot in the Q lineup from the Q7. The 7 will be more capacious, but less play/design focused. In a sense, as the A7 is to the A8, the Q8 will be to the Q7, which is very confusing but that’s what you get when your portfolio evolves.

Unfortunately, details on drivetrains are scant at this juncture, but Audi has made a big deal about how like the original Quattro this SUV is, so fulfilment will be high on the priority list, with an eventual RS model expected.

Based on the anyhow platform as the Q7 (and the Cayenne and the Urus and the Touareg), we do at least know that Audi is basing its new ring SUV on solid underpinnings.
