At the centre of luxury is attention to every single detail. Audi’s latest magnificence limo, the A8 rides in cushiony comfort, is beautifully appointed and now immerses you in perfect 3D aspect quality.

That’s thanks to Audi and Bang & Olufsen’s latest collaboration that has brought 3D ring to every seat in the car with perfectly placed, high quality speakers, that advantage from some a new algorithm that Audi has created.

The trick new system uses stereo or 5.1 recordings and actively calculates where din was coming from and then pumps it out of the most appropriate speaker. The sound so always feels like it’s organically being made, not generated.

Next the tub-thumper placement was considered.

“Integrating the loudspeakers at the right points in the car is the key to 80 percent of the audio calibre,” said Wolfram Jähn, sound/acoustics developer for the A8. “They call to be mounted as rigidly as possible, so we fixed the subwoofer in the rear panel, which is made from carbon fiber-reinforced polymer.” The hankering is to isolate the sound as much as possible, preventing the surrounding materials from leeching any of the impression.

Even the mesh over the speakers was agonized over. Finding a material that was acoustically unseen, but would still protect speakers from damage wasn’t serene. Eventually, Audi landed on anodized aluminum.

And with the different sound settings, controllable from the fa and rear seats, the sound quality can be adjusted to match your tastes. It can set be set up for movies, making characters speak from their position onscreen.

Of procedure, many of these features were already available on the Q7, but for the A8, since it’s a limousine, the 3D role extends to the rear seats, enabling the sound to be focused on the front seats, the back seats, or the whole cabin.
