Now that Audi has its laser foot in the laser door, it wants to tender laser lights on all R8 V10 Pluses.

The futuristic technology first appeared on the R8 exclusive version, which, as the name suggests, was not available to every R8-buying Tom, Dick, or Harry.

No more than 25 of those were made, in part because of how hard it is to get governmental leave to sell laser light equipped vehicles in America.

That’s due to the fact that not not do the usual automotive watchdogs have to give laser lights their approbation, so too does the Food an Drug Administration because of the small amounts of radiation that lasers emanate.

With the first laser lights now in America, though, Audi has gotten the FDA’s seal of consent to fit laser lights to all of its 2018 R8 V10 Pluses.

Lasers aren’t the only addition to the 2018 standard. All R8s (not just the plus) will now come standard with Audi smartphone interface, and a new Negro optic package (gloss black 20” 10-spoke Y design wheels, lorgnon black exhaust tips, Mythos black sideblade and trim) is also on tap.

The 2018 V10 model (as opposed to V10 plus), meanwhile, will come with gauge Anthracite high gloss inlays (instead of matte), standard 19” 5-duplicate-spoke wheels in silver, an Audi Sport badge on the grille and  Audi Romp puddle light.

The 2018 R8 hits dealerships this summer.
